February 2019 Julep Box – A Star is Born
This is it – my very last Julep Maven box.
Yes, it’s true – Julep has shut down their monthly subscription box program. Customers were notified of the decision on February 15th. Not only is the program canceled, but we also lost all of our Jules – I think I had close to $40 worth. It’s a bummer, but not shocking after hearing that they had declared bankruptcy and were closing the physical salons in Seattle. I am disappointed, but also slightly relieved – that’s $20/month I can pump back into my beauty budget.
My first clue that the program was coming to a close was that there was no February Collection – the curated boxes included makeup and the new version of “love your bare face” Replenishing Creme-to-Foam Cleanser. I kept the cleanser in my box and added two polishes from last year’s Zodiac Collection – “Vibrant Virgo”, luxe rose gold multidimensional, and “Tranquil Taurus”, grounded honey wheat metallic. My mom was a Virgo and my younger sister is a Taurus, but I don’t believe any of that shit.
The face wash is rather nice – it’s a pretty big tube and it rinses clean. I still prefer the stick formula – it works well with my Clarisonic and leaves my skin feeling squeaky clean, but this one will do.
According to the breakup email I received, all Mavens will continue to get a 25% discount off of regular prices, but I don’t know how much I’ll be shopping at Julep. I do need more Oxygen Smoothing Base Coat, but they’ve been out of stock for months. So frustrating!
Yes, it’s the end of an era.
January 2019 Julep Box – Face the Future
Well hell, I picked an odd assortment of colors this month, didn’t I?
I skipped this month’s featured beauty product – boost your radiance Reparative Rosehip Seed Oil. I’d gotten it in the January 2017 box – I ended using it more as a lipstick remover than a facial oil. It smelled lovely, but my face doesn’t do well with oils.
It Girl “Sabina” is seashell matte glitter and Boho Glam “Zara” is oyster grey sheer holographic. Both are very bland and neutral. Boho Glam “Angelique” is dragonfly wing iridescent glitter, but it’s not from this month’s collection – it’s from a Mystery Box, but it called out to me when I was building my box. I also added a sheet of silver stripe decals – I’m not quite sure how I’m gonna use them – they are super long.

December 2018 Julep Box – Bliss in the Kiss
Julep’s lead product for the December Collection was lipstick, but I am REAL hesitant to get more Julep lipsticks – they go bad so quickly. I appreciate the fresh ingredients and lack of preservatives…but their products go rancid within six months! The liquid lipsticks seem to fare better, I’ll keep buying those.
I don’t remember choosing these polishes, but they look like colors I would choose, so I must have.
My selections were Wonder Maven “Marleny” – cool peony shimmer, It Girl “Lennon” – galactic holographic shimmer, and Bombshell “Alessandra” – inked berry microshimmer. I am loving all these cool-toned polishes for sweater weather. Oh, and I also got another sheet of snowflake decals. I love these intricate snowflakes!

November 2018 Julep Maven Box – Hand of Plenty

Oh no! I almost forgot this month’s Julep Maven box!
I’m not sure how to wear rose gold eyeliner – but I picked one for this month’s box anyway. “Rose Gold Shimmer” is a new shade of when pencil met gel Long-Lasting Eyeliner. I keep forgetting to grab it and try it, so tomorrow is the day!
I also picked two polishes: Classic with a Twist “Nehali”, rich paprika metallic, and Wonder Maven “Sandee”, oxblood shimmer. I cannot resist shimmery reds!
I was also able to add a sheet of gold diamond decals to my box. I’ve amassed a nice collection of nail decals from Julep…
No candy…maybe next month I’ll get some Xmas candy?

October 2018 Julep Maven Box – Up All Night

Oh hey – I got some boxes piling up! I’ve been helping my sister move this week and been a little preoccupied…
I know I already have a bottle (somewhere) of Take a Breather Oxygen Nail Treatment – but this one is a new color – “Sheer Orchid”. Maybe after Halloween, I’ll let my nails breath and have a little break from polishes…
For polishes, I had a hard time choosing from all the rich Fall colors. Ultimately, I chose Bombshell “Nita”, Cinder Ash Microglitter, and Bombshell “Cecilia”, Nightshade Microshimmer. Microglitter, Microshimmer – why does everything have to be so tiny?
OH! And at the bottom of the box, a page of black cat nail decals. I can make Merkin nails!

September 2018 Julep Maven Box – Side Hustle

Sooooo… I sure did pick some…interesting…shades for this month’s “Side Hustle” Julep Box. All of the choices were rather muted, but these colors wouldn’t be out of place on a rack of khakis at Old Navy.
Wonder Maven “Keller” is camel sheer holographic and Boho Glam “Bradley” is mesquite green with gold ghost shimmer. At least they both have some sparkle…
I also added a new bottle of Julep Oxygen Smoothing Base Coat to my box – I’m running low.
To be honest, I’m most excited about the Rose Gold Alphabet decals – what should I spell first???

August 2018 Julep Maven Box – Light & Luster
Is it me, or are the Julep boxes getting slimmer and slimmer? They used to be filled to the brim with shredded paper and candy and an insert describing the month’s collection. No shreds, no candy and no insert this month. Am I spoiled, or what?
I didn’t skip the Beauty Product this month – perk it Under-Eye Treatment Brightener in “light”. It’s a little bit concealer, a little bit corrector. I haven’t had a chance to try it yet, but I am optimistic that it will hide the face that I never, ever sleep.
For polishes, I chose Classic with a Twist “Saryn” – coral sunset iridescent shimmer – and Boho Glam “Petra” – cranberry magenta shimmer. I used Jules to add another polish to my box – It Girl “Cozette” – peacock teal shimmer. I gotta have all the shimmers!

July 2018 Julep Maven Box – Welcome to the Jungle
July’s Julep Maven Collection is full of bright and amazing jungle colors – they’d be right at home on a Hawaiian shirt or a fun beach towel.
This month’s beauty product was a Body Cleansing Oil, so I decided to pass and pick three polishes. I’ve dabbled in facial oils with varying results, but I cannot imagine rubbing my entire body down with oil and feeling “clean” afterwards.
I picked It Girl “Tazi” – iridescent lime holographic, Wonder Maven “Raleigh” – hottest pink shimmer (hottest? really?), and Boho Glam “Maynette” – palm frond duochrome. (Did you know that Maynette is the name of an astronaut?)
Oh. and I was supposed to get some more nail decals with this box – nope, they didn’t make it into the box. Boo! Hiss!
I should just stop expecting candy – Julep is not giving us any more candy, are they?

June 2018 Julep Box – Sundae Funday
The theme of this month’s Julep box is “Sundae Funday”, and it’s a selection of creamy ice creamy colors. Though the colors were nice, I only ended up picking one – I was distracted by the lippies!
Julep launched three new shades of It’s Whipped Matte Lip Mousse – I got two of them. “Blind Date” was a no brainer – electric fuchsia metallic matte. My second selection was “Blush” – rose gold metallic matte. I’m nothing, if not predictable. Fuchsia and rose gold are my “things”.
For my polish, I waffled around, but ended up selecting Wonder Maven “Roberta” – breezy turquoise shimmer. I am likely to be rocky blue/turquoise/aqua pool nails all summer.
No candy AGAIN. At least there was an insert and some coupons.

May 2018 Julep Maven Box – Golden Hour
No information card, no candy this month – what’s up with that Julep?
The featured product this month was new shades of Skip the Brush Creme-to-Powder Blush Stick and I wasn’t really feeling it, so I went all polish. I was elated to see that this month’s collection includes Bombshell “Lilith”, Orchid Blossom Shimmer. Even though we call her “Lily”, her given name is “Lilith”. Now I just need a “Russell” polish to complete out family collection!
I also added Classic with a Twist “Presley”, Sizzling Hibiscus Iridescent, and Smooth Start – Oxygen Smoothing Base Coat. I’d been using Oxygen Bonding Base Coat, but sometimes you gotta mix it up. Oh, and I got Flowering Cacti decals – can’t wait to play with them, too!
I used Jules to add Bombshell “Tanaya”, Vibrant Marigold Crème. I know I am not a yellow polish fan, but it will look SO good with the cacti.
