April 2022 Sucreabeille Mini Subscription Bag

I love sampling all these scents each month…but it takes FOREVER!

This month’s unreleased scent is called “A Drop of Pure Joy.” It’s a clean smelling floral, but I cannot quite place the notes. There might be a hint of rain in it? It’s not my bag, but it’s nice smelling nonetheless.

“Belladonna” is the only repeat this month. Is it weird that it smells different as an oil than EDP? It smells much more sinister as an oil. I think it’s the leather notes – they carry more weight in an oil.

I LOVE rose scents, so I am definitely NOT going to complain about getting two rose scents this month. “Stone Rose” has a wilder, “dirt” smell to it. My husband wrinkled his nose at it, but I love smelling like I’ve been working in the garden all day.

Also in this month’s bag: “Vodka and Swearing” (the heavy juniper note makes this smell more like “Gin and Swearing” to me – I love it); “Tyrion” (Another Game of Thrones scent – a masculine vanilla and leather scent); and “Bee Space” (a much lighter honey and wax scent than “Black Honey” – innocent, not sinister).

I subscribe to the Mini Subscription Bag at just $15/month (shipping is extra), but there’s also a Medium Subscription Bag for $40/month and a Full Size Subscription Bag for $70/month. Click here for a $5 off coupon (for you AND me)!

April’s Fool

I was feeling a little spendy, so I splurged on Sucrebeille’s April Fool’s Collection. The set was only available April 1st through 3rd and was $65 for 6 oil drams. The scents sounded so compelling that I couldn’t resist.

“Cheese Hangover” isn’t a cheesy scent, thankfully…it’s a charcuterie board smell: figs and nuts maybe? I also caught a hint of wine.

“Citrus Ass Bitch” smells like a stripper – it’s Bath & Body Works Cucumber Melon, with a citrus-y musky undertone. (I’m wearing it right now and it’s sexier than it sounds.)

“Feral as Fuck” is VERY similar to “Goth as Fuck”, but the added hint of musk makes it more wearable to me, which is absolutely shocking to me, since I am not a big fan of musk.

“Da Mensies” smells exactly how you’d think it smells…but not in a bad way? I don’t think just anyone could get away with wearing this one…I think I could.

The last two scents are absolutely unwearable. “Chicken Witch” smells like a chicken pot pie. “Meat Lilith” smells like cinnamon and ground round – a delectable aroma of raw hamburger meat. Do you want your cats to eat you in your sleep? Because this is how you get your cats to eat you in your sleep.

There were also a few samples in my order. “#BAWDYGOTMELAID” is not my bag – it reminds me of this pheromone perfume that I got at a Sex Toy party. It just smells weird and chemically. “Heavy Heart” is supposed to a Black Forest Cake scent, but it comes across as a blood accord to me. It almost feel like it belong in the “Blood Drunk” set?

Unfortunately, this may not have been the best impulse buy…unless I can trick one of the kids into wearing the meaty fragrance and then sit back and wait for the attacks to begin…

March 2022 Sucreabeille Mini Subscription Bag

How is it April already? Didn’t I just get this bag the other day?

I don’t mind a delay in posting my Sucreabeille sub. It takes me a while to work through all the scents and sometimes I even have to wear them multiple times to really understand a scent.

March’s unreleased scent is called “Agent of Chaos”. It mostly just smells like patchouli to me, but there’s a note of something in there that I cannot quite explain.

BY FAR, the best scent of the month is “Brienne the Beauty”, which I believe is a Game of Thrones themed scent. It’s a masculine citrus scent, which I LOVE. It reminds of the Atelier Cologne scents I tend towards. I’m glad I found a possible substitution since I recently learned that Atelier is no longer being sold in the US. Tragic!

Also in the January bag: “Assbutt” (a marshmallow-y scent from the Supernatural themed collection); “Crafty Witch” (which I’ve already tried); “Infamy” (this one has a heavy tuberose vibe, reminding me of B&BW’s “Velvet Tuberose”); and “Forest Witch” (just smells like the Garden Center at Lowe’s to me).

I am not loving this month’s bag as much as previous ones, but I am not quite ready to call it quits yet.

I subscribe to the Mini Subscription Bag at just $15/month (shipping is extra), but there’s also a Medium Subscription Bag for $40/month and a Full Size Subscription Bag for $70/month. Click here for a $5 off coupon (for you AND me)!

Sugarplum!

Sinful Colors Quick Bliss “Sugarplum Sucker” is a nice lavender and all, but it wasn’t what I was trying to do. Originally, I was planning on doing ALL of my nails with Delush Polish “Sugar Plum Surprise”, after 6 years on the shelf, I could tell that there wasn’t going to be enough in the bottle to do all my nails. Why not do a combo with another sugar plum?

I started with Glisten & Glow Ridge Filling Base Coat. I did two coats of both “Sugarplum Sucker” and “Sugar Plum Surprise”. I finished with Glisten & Glow Top Coat, but the two glitter nails got a coat of Glisten & Glow Glitter Grabber first.

The Glitter Grabber really made a difference in the finish. It’s hard to compare with my original use of “Sugar Plum Sucker” six years ago. Why didn’t anyone tell me that my phone camera was so crappy? Also, is it “sugarplum” or “sugar plum”? What is a “sugar plum”? WHY is a “Sugar plum”?

Wrapped in Plastic – The Return

A post shared by Lara (@knobbygirl) on

You had to know that this beauty was coming back…

I had to show off Hare Polish “Wrapped in Plastic” along with my other Twin Peaks polishes. I started with Sinful Colors Base Coat, painted two coats and finished off with Zoya Matte Velvet Top Coat. I am in love with how it turned out. It reminds me of a frosted over window in winter, with the crystals reflecting the sun.

The strangest thing happened with this polish – it changed colors. After a day or so, it began to take on a yellow hue, instead of the pure ice blue. I think it might have been caused by my fingernails, stained by the green and yellow polishes that I used last.

The first time I tried it (several years ago!!!), I went shiny. I definitely like the matte version better.

Green Formica Table

A post shared by Lara (@knobbygirl) on

Twin Peaks is so close I can taste it…so you’re gonna have to put up with a bunch of Twin Peaks-themed manicures.

I’ve been thinking about “Green Formica Table” for ages and ages. (Or technically, “This is a formica table. Green is its colors.) Going off of memory, this is how I remember the green formica table and I was too lazy to watch Fire Walk With Me again…or google it. I think I did pretty well.

I started with Sinful Colors Base Coat and two coats of Sinful Colors “Happy Ending”. I topped with a single coat of Hare Polish “The Owls are Not What They Seem” and then finished with Zoya Matte Velvet Top Coat.

If you’re familiar with “Happy Ending”, it’s a bright kelly green. The jelly brown in “Owls” darkened it up just enough to make it look like aged plastic, plus the matte-ed glitter made it perfect.

Just two more days until Agent Cooper returns…isn’t it too dreamy?

Black Metals

A post shared by Lara (@knobbygirl) on

Thank you Black Moon Cosmetics, for bring back the Black Metals Collection.

Originally launched last fall (October?), the Black Metal Trinity was released as a Limited Edition Set, and included “Immortal” (blackened purple), “Armageddon” (blackened red), and “Sorrow” (blackened blue). “Myth” (blackened green) was available separately. I wasn’t feeling the green, purple or blue, so I passed and it sold out. Fast forward to February and Black Moon Cosmetics has added the collection to their permanent collection AND added a new shade called “Eternal” (blackened rose gold).

I HAD to have “Eternal”. I also added “Armageddon” and “Sleepwalker” (matte blackest black) to my order.

I haven’t had a chance to try “Sleepwalker yet – it’s not exactly an every day shade. “Eternal” looks amazing on – darker than I’d expected, but looked fantastic all day. “Armageddon” is my favorite – the most glittery red lipstick I’ve seen. This is what I WISHED Urban Decay “Trap Queen” had been.

My First Black Moon

/

This past week was one of a few firsts – my first Jeffree Star lippies and now…my first Black Moon Cosmetics lippies.

I was turned on to Black Moon…again, by Sally. As a small brand, they also have cyclical restocks, meaning you have to pay attention to get the colors you want. A big restock happened on May 13th and I had my order placed within minutes. It took just a week to get here, received it yesterday. The packaging is beautiful…and not just the lippies themselves. They come in a fancy box with an illustrated inside and glittery tissue paper…and a thank you note!

I selected “Selene” (a beautiful deep plum with a gorgeous soft purple pearlescent sheen) and “Wrath” (the perfect combination of mauve with a hint of pink and a touch of brown). Like Jeffree Star, the lippies are $18 (click here to see the whole range). The formulas are not runny like Jeffree’s, but are more like a mousse texture – similar to Julep’s It’s Whipped Lip Mousse. They go on and stay on.

“Selene” is a pearly plum and very dark on me (husband said too dark). “Wrath” is very similar to Kat Von D “Lolita” on me – my holy grail color. That means I might not need to buy Jeffree Star “Androgyny” when it restocks…bullshit, I’ll totally be buying it anyway.

OH! And I’ve found the perfect way to remove these tough lippies! I dip a cotton ball in Peter Thomas Roth Pink Bombshell Lip Balm and it wipes right off and leaves my lips moist and hydrated. I definitely give it an A++ for preventing shredded, dry lips.

Forever Young

/

Someday, I’ll learn how to use white polish without getting crusty edges around my cuticles…someday.

This here, is Delush Polish “Forever Young”, from their Downton Abbey themed Collection – “Downton A-List”. I’ve never seen a second of the show, but when I caught this mini on sale, I thought it was ridiculously cute. It’s a white base with opalescent and mint glitter, with a generous helping of red hearts. There are so many hearts that I would get 1-2 on each brushful – so nice.

I started with Sinful Colors Base Coat and topped with “HK Girl”. Next time, I’ll try not to slop it all over my cuticles.

Rose Jelly

/

I had to try a Julep Jelly!

This is two coats of Julep “Tiffany” sandwiched between Julep Oxygen Bonding Base Coat and Dream Polish Gem Glam Top Coat. I was expecting it to be sheerer, but it was thicker than I expected. It reminds me of melted candle wax. But it’s still a jelly, because I can see my nail line. Julep’s website describes it as Pink radish jelly – I guess radish is pretty accurate.

“Tiffany” is sooooo much like Jenna Hip “Rose Tart” – both match my Knockout Roses, although “Tiffany” is just a smidge darker.
