Minty Fresh Nails

/

As I was squirting it onto my toothbrush last night, I was struck by how well my fingernails matched my toothpaste. My toothpaste even has mini bright strips that mimic the glitter on my thumb and ring finger. If you’re interested…Colgate MaxWhite with Mini Bright Strips. As far as I can tell, those strips don’t do shit.

My minty look is 2 coats of Zoya “Dillon”, with Zoya “Monet” on my “party nails”. (Doesn’t “party nail” sound so much better than “accent nail”?)

This minty color is EVERYWHERE. My favorite candle – Bella “Island Moonlight” – is this color. There was a Hyundai this color behind me on the highway on the way home…why do I feel so paranoid all of a sudden?

Easter Shopping

/

Remember when stores used to be closed on holidays? Easter is one of the few holidays that still closes some stores – HEB and Target are closed today, but Ulta was open. Do a lot of people go buy makeup after Easter Sunday service?

I got a ladyboner yesterday when I got an Ulta sale mag in the mail yesterday. Most of it was fragrances for Mother’s Day, but there was one special that caught my eye – Buy 2 Zoya polishes and get a free Zoya “Monet”, a multi-colored, cellophane holographic special effect topper. Plus, I still had a $5 off $15 coupon. I picked up “Cassedy” (full-coverage celestial pewter metallic from the Zenith Winter Collection) and “Dillon” (full-coverage green mint metallic with silver shimmer from the Awaken Spring 2014 collection). I also got a sample of it’s a 10 miracle leave in product – what does that even mean?

I couldn’t wait to try “Monet”, so I used it on my middle fingernails, over Julep “Tatum”. NOW, my Easter Grass nails are complete.

Easter Grass

Doesn’t Julep “Tatum” look like Easter grass?

Easter grass is verboten in our house…if you’ve never pulled a strand of Easter grass out of a feline’s bunghole – you don’t know what you’re missing! Trust me, they like it even less than you do…

In lieu of Easter grass, I’ll make do with Easter grass nails…

Moroccan?

A post shared by Lara (@knobbygirl) on

Is it purple? Or is it bronze? Is it mauve? Or maybe it is copper? Rose gold? I can’t figure it out. Zoya “Faye” is an enigma!

This polish takes on totally different colors, depending on the room you’re in. In the bathroom, it was purple. In the living room, it was copper. I was wearing a pink sweater today and the polish looked rose. I took this picture outside, to get the best range of colors.

Zoya “Faye” reminds me of Moroccan decor. It makes me want to belly dance. Are you laughing at me?

Disco Accent Nail

Zoya polish lasts so long without chipping…I was planning on putting glitter on Zoya “Bobbi” when it began to chip, but it hasn’t started to chip yet.

I couldn’t resist playing though – so I used essie luxeffects “A Cut Above” on my ring fingers. It’s not quite as sparkly as “Set in Stones” – but that may be because of the shimmer of “Bobbi”. I’ll have to try it over a matte polish.

I figured out what this polish reminds me of – “Day to Night” Barbie’s Fuchsia Lamé body suit. I didn’t even own this Barbie myself, but I loved her. Not too long ago, I took one of those lame Facebook quizzes – “What Barbie Are You?” – and the answer was “Day to Night” Barbie. That is ABSOLUTELY THE TRUTH. Facebook quizzes never lie.

I’m a Bobbi Girl

A post shared by Lara (@knobbygirl) on

It’s been too long since FUCHSIA!!!

I put on 2 coats of Zoya “Bobbi” last night while I was watching The Soup on the DVR. I didn’t even have to use Quick Dry Drops…It dried almost immediately!

Zoya polish is so dreamy…I can’t afford to be addicted to two brands of nail polish…

Oops, I Did It Again

My inspiration for this paint job was Britney Spears’ naked rhinestone suit from the MTV Music Awards. Don’t laugh, Britney is no less a valid inspiration than The Shocker or The Rusty Trombone!

Hands down, essie luxeffects “Set in Stones” is the best glitter to use if you want to draw attention to your nails. I was unable to get a pictures of my nails that didn’t have multiple lens flares.

Underneath the glitter, I put down a single coat of Artmatic “Dusty Rose”, which is one of the oldest polishes that I own. (I don’t remember why, but Dr. Delta gave me this polish when we lived together in college…so it’s at LEAST 17 years old.) I haven’t seen Artmatic in stores in years, but according to the intertwebs, it’s still sold in Dollar Stores. I admit that I had quite a bit of Artmatic makeup in my Junior High years.

This is now my “go to” nail look. Get used to it…

Stained Glass

/

Pictures do not do my nails justice – they are gorgeous!

I started with a coat of Sally Hansen “Flirt” – a dark maroon. Then I added a sloppy coat of Sparitual Luminary Matte Top Effect in “Opaline”. My nails looks like stained glass. Blood-splattered stained glass!

This is my first experience with Sparitual products. The bottle says Vegan, but I bought it anyway. (At first I thought they were referring to ingredients, but then I realized they must be referring to the animal testing aspect. Feh, I put nail polish all over my dog and she’s fine.) It’s the most expensive polish I’ve ever bought at $12, but again, my nails look damn good.

Glitter to the Rescue!

/

The more polish that I buy, the harder it is to choose! It’s a conundrum worthy of O. Henry…

So why choose? I knew I had to do something to stop the rapid degradation of Julep “Caitlin” from my nails. Instead of picking just one…I picked 5 glitters.

From thumb to pinky, I used Sally Hansen Gem Crush “Razzle Dazzler”, wet n wild coloricon “The Crown is Mine”, Julep “Antonia”, Nicole by OPI “Rainbow in the S-Kylie” (Yes, I am guilty of contributing to the Kardashians’ empire by buying clearance nail polish at HEB – shoot me) and Julep “Betty”.

I LOVE this crazy glitter bonanza!

I’m a Barbie Girl…

/

…in a Barbie world. Life in plastic – it’s fantastic!

You just sang that in your head, didn’t you?

After the Traffic Cones incident, I had high hopes for the other polish from my April Julep Box. “Caitlin” is described as shocking hibiscus with gold shimmer. To me, it looks more like the Barbie pink plastic that all of my daughter’s Barbie shit is made from. It’s cheap plastic from China – so sheer that you can almost see through it….just like “Caitlin”. This time, I only applied one coat – it was the same matte finish as “Mariska”, so I topped with “Freedom Polymer”.

Unlike “Mariska”, I LOVE the color – I just hate the finish. Even with the topcoat, it’s chipping ridiculously quickly. I’m sleepy, so GLITTER TO THE RESCUE!
