A Night in the Asylum
The end of Daylight Savings Time is giving my website Seasonal Affective Disorder. I don’t personally require sunlight to function, but I prefer to take my nail pictures in natural lighting…but my bathroom will have to do.
What do you think of Delush Polish “A Night in the Asylum”? This picture doesn’t do it justice. It’s an inky midnight jelly with teal/turquoise glitters and holographic dots. I used 3 thin coats and I did have to do a tiny bit of fishing to get the large dots, but it wasn’t too hard.
I used the Sinful Colors Base Coat – this stuff is a bitch to remove – I don’t need Orly Bonder’s help. I used Sally Hansen Diamond Flash for the top coat. “A Night in the Asylum” is fairly smooth, but I’m going to try 2 coats next time.
Zodiac Matrix
Urban Decay “Zodiac” reminds me of The Matrix – the duochrome glitter gives the illusion of type sliding down a computer screen.
Two, maybe three coats are necessary for full coverage. I was able to get away with two, but I did get a few bald spots when I put on my top coat. I used Orly Bonder for the base coat and Sally Hansen Diamond Flash for the top coat. I kinda want to try it matte now.
That bottle though…I am in LOVE with the Urban Decay polish bottles. I though the skull was special for Mrs. Mia Wallace, but they ALL have it!
“Zodiac” was a limited edition release for the 2013 Holiday season. It was released with a plum/gold duochrome called “Blackheart”. Now I need to go back to the bin at Nordstrom Rack and dig for it!
Reign of the Studs
My BFF loves me so much. She wasn’t digging the L’Oreal polish that she got in her Beauty Box 5 this month, so she gave it to me. She enables me so much.
Unlike my polish, hers actually had the sticker still on it. It’s called “Reign of the Studs” – what the hell does that mean? That sounds like some kind of bizarre gay S&M porn? It’s basically L’Oreal’s version of Zoya’s Pixie Dust – it’s splendid. This is Sinful Colors Base Coat + 2 coats and no top coat. Like the Pixie Dusts, edge wear is immediate and unavoidable.
4th post of the day! W00t!
Pumpkin Spice All the Things!
It’s cold outside. You know what that means? Time for the white people to PUMPKIN SPICE ALL THE THINGS!
I got one of the Ipsy Exclusive polishes in my bag last month – Nicole by OPI “On A Gilt Trip”. I started with a coat of that – I was surprised that it is a full coverage matte gold – I was expecting a sheer shimmer. I topped with a coat of Sinful Colors “Pumpkin Spice”, which is gold and red glitter in a clear base. WHY is it called “Pumpkin Spice”? I would expect “Pumpkin Spice to have oranges and browns? Whatever…
I used the Sinful Colors Base Coat and Sally Hansen Diamond Flash for the top coat. I took the picture at work, while I was bored waiting for a spreadsheet to calculate. WHAT? You don’t carry nail polish around in your purse at all times?
Let’s Build A Snowman!
…and NO, I am NOT referring to Frozen. I’m referring to that classic of college cinema – Cannibal! The Musical. In this movie, if you start singing about building a snowman…YOU DIE.
Julep “Kiki” looked so good that I decided to try out Funky Fingers “Olaf” on top of it. (Yes…THAT Olaf.) “Olaf” was yet another frustrating glitter. Those snowflakes were impossible to fish out of the bottle because of the narrow neck. I gave up after one snowflake per finger. The rest of the glitter was wonderful…but those fucking snowflakes…
I did 2 coats of “Olaf”, which I regretted as I was removing it just a few hours ago. I had to pry those fucking snowflakes off with my fingernails…
Cloudy Dream
Julep “Kiki” is like dark, dreamy thunderclouds rolling in. It looks lighter in the bottle, like a bright sun shower – but once it’s on your fingers, it’s thunder and lightning. Julep’s site describes it as oceanic silver shimmer – maybe an oceanic storm? The Bermuda Triangle?
Another one coater, but I used two to be sure – sandwiched between Revlon Quick Dry Base and Top Coat. No bubbles or streaks – it’s like Julep has turned into Zoya all of a sudden!
I wish I had worn gray and black today instead of brown and pink…
A Solid Fart
So I made the mistake of asking my son what he he thought about my fingernail polish…he said it looks like “a solid fart.” After questioning him, he claimed that he had pooped this color before – and I stated that he needs medical care. He laughed at me as he walked away. Even though it sounded like he was saying my nails look like shit, I know that’s not what he meant. He meant that they look like chili beans, so I can kind of see that.
This is Julep “Fazia”. (Is Julep running out of polish names? May I recommend “Lara” or “Lilith”???) It was a true one coater, but I used two just to be sure. It was smooth and didn’t streak – and NO bubbles! I used Revlon Quick Dry Base and Top Coat, which seem to work best with Julep.
I can’t wait hear what my next polish looks like…boogers, barf or some other excrement?
The Supreme
So, since Daylight Savings Time ended, it’s dark when I get home and I have had to get creative to find good enough light to take nail pictures. My husband switched all of the bulbs to LED, which saves money…but LED lights SUCK for pictures. I get so-so results in my bathroom, but this time I used my son’s desk lamp. It’s better, but not ideal. Nothing beats sunlight, but I guess I’m screwed until March.
This is Delush Polish “The Supreme” from the “Scream Supreme Collection”, inspired by American Horror Story. It’s a blood red jelly, filled with different sizes of red glitter. The red is so deep that’s hard to see all the glitter. Orly Bonder for the base coat and I used Sally Hansen Diamond Flash for the top coat…except for my ring finger. I hadn’t tried out Zoya Matte Velvet Top Coat yet and OH MY GAWD. I love it so much more on this polish than the shiny shiny. It dries super quick, too – almost like a quick dry!
Only three more Delushies to try!
Gambit
Zoya “Remy” is so beautiful that it changed my plans.
I had intended to just use “Remy” on my toes and continue with the Delush Polish “Scream Supreme Collection” on my fingers…but no…I saw it on my toes and changed my mind. Sorry Delushies, I’ll have to get my freakshow on later.
Zoya’s site describes “Remy” as brilliant indigo with copper and gold liquid metallic. It’s from the Fall 2014 Ignite Collection. Like all Zoyas, the formula is absolutely perfect. I used Orly Bonder for the base coat and Sally Hansen Diamond Flash for the top coat.
I looooooooove it.
Maleficent in a Motorcycle Jacket
So…even though I haven’t seen the movie, I’m gonna be Maleficent for Halloween. It’s not that I’m lazy, but as I get older, I’m quite content to pick costumes that consist of wearing a hat and dressing in black.
I was googling Maleficent pictures yesterday to check out her nails and I was absolutely infuriated that Angelina Jolie had cream colored nails in the film. That’s no fun – no fun at all! How can an evil fairy have delicate, cream colored nails?
Nope, nope, nope – I can’t do cream colored nails for Halloween.
Since Maleficent is decked out in black leather, I decided to try out Revlon Leather Cuir “Motorcycle Jacket” from the Revlon Textile Collection. This is a nice deep black with a soft, pebbled texture. It’s more like rubber than leather. It’s shinier than I expected – it almost looks wet – like wet tires! It goes on super smooth and dries fairly quickly. I used Revlon Quick Dry Base Coat, but no top coat – a top coat would ruin the texture.
I can’t wait for tomorrow!
