Dressin’ Up

Yes, it’s another one from November’s Polish Pickup – Nostalgic Toys!

Crystal Knockout “Dressin’ Up” is inspired by Barbie & the Rockers and their song…Dressin’ Up (not to be confused with Dress You Up by Madonna). You can take a listen HERE. I listened to the song…and it did not ring a bell at all. I must have had the cassette, because I saved my money to buy Dee Dee – she had the leopard print leggings, so obviously she was the best.

“Dressin’ Up” was really thick and difficult to apply evenly. I don’t think the issue was with the polish itself – the brush was fucked up. The tip was uneven and slit in two, almost cloven like a goat’s hoof. The flakies also had a lot of texture – next time I need to add a layer of Glitter Grabber. It was not at all like the other Crystal Knockout polishes I’ve tried…so it’s probably just a fluke.

Oh, and did I mention that it is a THERMAL polish? The sample pics online look more dramatic than mine, but it was cold as balls outside when I took the picture, so it wasn’t a dramatic color change.

This is two coats of “Dressin’ Up” over Cuticula Mic Drop Base Coat in “Tropical Oasis” and under Cuticula Limitless Top Coat in “Champagne Toast“.

Polish Pickup November 2024 – Nostalgic Toys

Oops, I went overboard on Polish Pickup again. Sorry, not sorry.

November’s theme was “Nostalgic Toys” – I wanted them ALL – Barbie, Jem, Furbies…but I tried to control myself…

DRK Nails “Lizard Grabber” ($13) is inspired by those slimy lizard grabber toys from gumball machines.

Kathleen & Co “Glow So Bright” ($13.50) is inspired by Lite Brite.

Bee’s Knees Lacquer “Ghost or Furby” ($13) is inspired by a haunted Furby.

Crystal Knockout “Dressin’ Up” ($12.50) is inspired by the 1987 Barbie & the Rockers movie, which I have NOT seen! This one is a thermal.

Garden Path Lacquers “Truly Truly” ($13.50) is inspired by the TRULY OUTRAGEOUS Jem & the Holograms.

These will be a LOT of fun! I missed December’s Polish Pickup – it was a week earlier than normal – so I hope these get me through until 2025!

25 Fly

Even though this polish is inspired by Veruca Salt’s album American Thighs, it’s giving Pink Pony Club, right? RIGHT?

I picked up Crystal Knockout “25 Fly” from July’s Rewind, but it was originally from October 2023 – 90’s Grunge. It’s a combination of two of the songs – “25” and “Fly”. My boyfriend in college used to play that album, but I’ll be damned if I remember any song except “Seether”. Maybe I’ll put it on next time I’m in the car?

This is two coats of “25 Fly” over Cuticula Mic Drop Base Coat in “Melt Down” and under Glisten & Glow Glitter Grabber, then Cuticula Limitless Top Coat in “Champagne Toast“. The heart glitters were definitely a bit lifty, so you’ve gotta use something to keep them flat.

I didn’t realize this this was a thermal polish until after I’d already posted pics…Oopsie! It was BARELY thermal, but I do recall side-eyeing my nails while wearing it.

Polish Pickup July 2024 – Rewind

Somehow, I missed June’s Polish Pickup…I was traveling and it just slipped my mind. So that’s my excuse for going fucking HAM in July. 10 polishes…FUCK YEAH!

Starting from the top left and going clockwise:

Beaux Rêves Lacquer “Blooming Azalea” ($12) was originally from January 2024 – Deadly Plants. It’s inspired by azaleas and is a magnetic polish. I’m unlikely to magnetize it though.

Atomic Polish “Sour Apple Rings” ($13.50) was from May 2023 – Junk Food. It appears fairly self explanatory.

Cuticula “Never Sleep Again” ($13) was from September 2022 – Scary Vibes. Helloooo Freddy Krueger!

Limitless Top Coat by Cuticula in “Champagne Toast” ($10) was from April 2023 – Flower Power.

Pinnacle Polish “I Made a Promise, Mr. Frodo” ($13) was from October 2022 – Sidekicks. It was inspired by ass-kicking Samwise Gamgee.

By Dany Vianna “Rosewater” ($14) was another from April 2023 – Flower Power. It’s inspired by…rosewater.

Jior Couture “The Tea On The Manatee” ($13.75) was from way back in October 2021 – Monsters & Mythical Creatures. This thermal polish is inspired by the idea that sailors often mistook manatees for mermaids.

Crystal Knockout “25 Fly” ($12.50) was from October 2023 – 90’s Grunge and inspired by Veruca Salt’s “American Thighs” album.

Lilypad Lacquer “You will respect my authoritahhh!” ($14) was from February 2022 – 90’s TV and inspired by Officer Cartman.

Last, but not least…Sweet Heart Polish “You Betta Recognize” ($13) was from February 2024 – Wild Animals and inspired by the red Veiltail Betta fish.

I bet you’ll never guess which one I picked to try first…

In Sprite of It All

I know, I know…my nails are not NEARLY long enough to properly show off thermal nail polishes. Well, not long enough without help from a little ice. That’s right, I rubbed an ice cube across my nails in the second picture to show off the color change. It’s not nearly as amazingly beautiful in pictures, as in real life.

Anyway, the polish is Crystal Knockout “In Sprite of It All”, from July’s Polish Pickup. The polish is inspired by Spryte, from the Zelda cartoon. There is most definitely a fairy quality to the polish, although I was drawn to it because the swatch shots reminded me of an amethyst geode.

This is two coats of “In Sprite of It All” over Vibrant Scents Base Coat in “Island Petals” and topped with Glisten & Glow Glitter Grabber, then Vibrant Scents Top Coat in “Island Petals”.

Polish Pickup July 2023 – REWIND

I absolutely LOVE that every July, Polish Pickup does a “REWIND” month that allows folks to have a chance to buy polishes that they may have missed out on from past months. Of course, the selection is dependent on what products the makers make available – I kind of went nuts on thermal polishes…

Crystal Knockout “In Sprite of It All” ($12.50) is a sparkly thermal polish. It’s from October 2022 – Sidekicks, and is inspired by Sprite from Legend of Zelda. I have never played it or watched any of the cartoons, so I’ll take their word for it. I just bought it because it reminds me of my birthstone, amethyst.

Dam Nail Polish “Don’t Go in There, it’s Haunted AF” ($13) is NOT a thermal polish. It’s from September 2022 – Scary Vibes, and is inspired by a haunted house with pumpkin guards (I cannot even visualize that, but whatever).

Fancy Gloss “The Toxic Bitch” ($13) is a TRI-THERMAL and is from June 2020 – Cocktails and Mocktails. I’ve seen the swatches and I am VERY excited to try it…there’s a surprise in this polish and I don’t want to ruin it!

Swamp Gloss “Whoa” ($13.50) is yet another thermal polish. It’s from April 2021 – The Nineties, and is inspired by the one and only Keanu Reeves. I mean…who else could “Whoa” be referring to? (If anyone says Joey Lawrence, I will SLAP them.)

Oh, and I got Vapid Wax “It’s Like RAYYYYEEEEAAAYYYYNNNN” ($5) – I love the scent of petrichor and rain in general, so this is going right into my bathroom warmer. This one was from March 2019 – Album Covers.

I went so crazy in July that I held myself back from even LOOKING at the August Polish Pickup last week…Not sure if I’ll purchase in September, but I already KNOW I am going to load up on spooky October polishes.
